Devan Okerstrom

DEVAN 'VAN' WALDO OKERSTROM, 89 MAY 11, 1924 TO APRIL 6, 2014 ROCKFORD - Van went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born in Cambridge, Minnesota to Oscar and Elizabeth Okerstrom. Married to Madeline C. Okerstrom who preceded him to glory in 2009. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII for two years as a rifleman and teletype operator. Van will be well remembered as a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church in Rockford, as well as, a man who loved his Lord, his family, his church, his fellowman and his country. For years he shared the gospel of Christ to those in the Rockford Rescue Mission, the jail ministry of the church, and in his church because he had a love for the souls of others. Survivors include his children, Linda Fillers, Polly (Bob) McLain, Pam Strohmeyer, and David Okerstrom; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at Memorial Baptist Church, Rockford, 7007 Flora Road, Rockford, IL. Pastor Terry Pergl officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service.
