DONALD L. 'DON' ANDERSON FORT MYERS, Fla. - Donald L. "Don" Anderson passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23 2013, at Home Hospice, Fort Myers, FL. Don was born in Rockford, IL on June 2, 1929 to Walter and Karin (Sjoblum) Anderson. He married Pat Schrock on Oct. 10, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford, IL. He graduated from East High School in 1947 and joined the Marine Corp where he was a radio operator. After leaving the Marines he joined the Rockford Police Department where he proudly served for 31 years. He retired in 1984 as a Detective in the Property and Evidence Department. He began his second career at Amcore Bank as the Director of Security, where he worked for 12 years. He finished his working years as a starter at Sinnissippi Golf Course Rockford. Don was a Loyola member of the Tebala Shriners, member of Masonic Lodge, the Rockford Moose Club and the American Legion in Fort Myers, FL. Survivors include his wife, Pat; daughters, Sharon Popham, Fort Myers, FL, Jenifer (Tony) Swartz, Rockton, IL and Jessica Anderson, Fort Myers, FL; son, Mark (Patti) Anderson, Des Moines, IA and son-in-law, Lon Scarbrough, Cherokee Village, AR; grandchildren, Bobby, Chad, Sara, Emily, Leslie, Kelly and Nick; as well as 7 great-grandchildren. Proceeded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister; and his wonderful daughter, Dawn Scarbrough. Don enjoyed his family, a good steak, and his friends in Fort Myers, FL including his many friends at Fort Myers Beach RV. He loved playing poker with his group of guys, golfing with his grandkids and a good Western. Remembrance service was held for family and friends in Fort Myers on March 27, and a second "Up North" gathering will be held in June in Rockton, IL.
