EUGENE 'SAM' CARSON, 84 BELVIDERE - Eugene "Sam" Carson, 84, of Belvidere died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at SwedishAmerican Hospital, Belvidere. Born Nov. 22, 1928, in Lee County, Iowa, son of James and Hattie (Zachmeyer) Carson. Married Velma Graham on Feb. 11, 1950, in Fort Madison, Iowa. Served in the U.S. Army. Sam worked as an inspector for Sundstrand Corp. in Belvidere and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed camping, traveling and square dancing. Survivors include son, William (Lisa) of Spokane, Wash.; daughters, Mary (James) Curtiss of Loves Park and Nancy Carson of Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, Tami Lynn Carson, Bridget Marie Clayton and David Eugene LaBounty; and sister, Esther Snelson of Warrenton, Mo. Predeceased by parents; wife, Velma; and five brothers. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., with the Rev. James Owens officiating.
