Forrest Miles

FORREST N. MILES, 90 BELVIDERE - Forrest N. Miles, 90, departed from his earthly life, November 16, 2013, at Illinois Veterans Home, LaSalle, IL. Born Dec. 23, 1922, in Belvidere, IL, the son of Harvey N. and Adeline E. (Morse) Miles. June 6, 1948, he married Louise E. Hawkey. They have two daughters, Julia L.M. (Jim) Thorius, Carlisle, IA. and Elizabeth A. Stevens, Belvidere, IL. Forrest helped deliver milk to residences in town from a horse drawn wagon beginning at about age 9. He graduated from Belvidere High School in 1941, where he played football and basketball. He served in the Army Air Corps for 3+ years during WWII in the China, Burma, India Theatre, and in recent years attended many reunions with his army buddies. He began his career with the Belvidere Post Office as a City Carrier and became a Rural Carrier, retiring in 1981. He and Louise traveled to Canada, England, Scotland and extensively in the U.S. for 20 years, they wintered happily at Venture Out in Mesa, AZ, where he enjoyed golf, table tennis, bocce ball and horseshoes. In Belvidere, at the Keenage Center, he participated in the Sr. Olympics for many years. He was an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church 45 years, member of the American Legion, Lifetime member of VFW Post#1461, National Rural Letter Carriers Association, Boone County Historical Society and Friends of the Ida Public Library. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years; daughters; grandchildren, Matthew (Teresa) Stevens, Joshua (Kira) Stevens, Christopher (Aygul) Stevens, Jacob (Erin) Thorius, Jessica (Kelly)Williams and Jeremiah Thorius (fiancée, Jessica Olson); great-grandchildren, Carson, Robin and Meredith Stevens, Mercedes and Natasha Chilson, Jordan and baby-to-be Thorius, Kaleb and Adelyn Williams; 8 nieces; and one nephew. Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Morse and Graydon; sister, Rachel Newman; nephew, Ted Newman; and niece, Kay Louise Miles. Visitation from 12 noon to 1:45 p.m. Friday, November 22, preceding the 2 p.m. service at First Presbyterian Church, Belvidere, IL. Rev. Dr. Robert R. Kopp officiating.
