Frederick Powell

FREDERICK H. POWELL GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. - Frederick H. Powell of Green Valley, formally of Rockford, Ill., peacefully passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14 2012, in La Posada Retirement Community, Green Valley. Born July 21, 1922, in Rockford, the son of Hugh E. and Meta H. (Muller) Powell. He married Edra M. Harrison on July 11, 1942, in St. Louis. Frederick served in the U.S. Army Air Force as first lieutenant flying P51 Mustangs from 1944-1945. He was a dairy executive for Muller-Pinehurst for 40 years. Frederick was an active member of 2nd Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a past president of the Rockford Kiwanis Club, Star in the East Lodge 166 , Freeport Consistory, Knights Templar, Tebala Temple, Royal Order of Jesters Council, Pyramid Club, Rockford Country Club, Green Valley B.P.O. Elks, and Desert Hills Golf Club. He is survived by children, Frederick H. "Rick" (Mary) Powell Jr., Marlene P. (Dick) Sheppard, Lawrence H. Powell, Meta Ann (Dr. Don) Rastede and James M. Powell; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret A. (Rolf) Thienemann. Predeceased by brother, John M. "Jack" Powell. Memorial service will be held in Rockford at Second Congregational Church in spring 2013. Contributions may be made to Second Congregational Church, 318 N. Church St., Rockford, IL 61101.
