GERALD D. 'JERRY' ROACH, 66 ROCKFORD - Gerald D. "Jerry" Roach, 66, of Rockford, died at 5:55 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, in his home. Born March 22, 1948, in Rockford, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Templeton) Roach. Graduate of Auburn High School class of 1968. Served in the U.S. Air Force as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He married Mary Jo Toon June 10, 1978, in Rockford. Jerry worked for Barber Colman, White Sundstrand Machine Tool, 3C Computer Systems, and Lloyds Hearing Aid. Retired in 2010. He was a member of First Evangelical Free Church, where he was an usher and choir member and volunteered in the church office. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; sister, Marcella (Neil) Albright of Rockford; brothers-in-law, Michael Wheelock of Omaha, Neb., Steve (Sue) Toon of South Beloit, Ill., and Mike Toon of East Chicago, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Barb (Dan) Ysseldyke of Burlington, Iowa, Therese (Rick) Houk of Grand Junction, Colo., Sarah (Mark) Livingston of Newnan, Ga., and Rosemary Toon of Plainfield, Ill.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; and sister, Carol Wheelock. Special thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice, Personalized Homecare, OSF Center for Cancer Care, and UW Carbone Cancer Center for their compassionate care. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2014, in First Evangelical Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Rd., with the Rev. Bertie Holmgren officiating. Private burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
