Gerald Tomlinson

GERALD E. TOMLINSON, 81 ROCKFORD - Gerald E. Tomlinson, 81, died on Friday, December 27, 2013, in Swedish American Hospital. He was born June 19, 1932, in Hannibal, MO, son of J. Russell and Ethel (Ardrey) Tomlinson. A Navy veteran from 1951 to 1954, he served as a Personnel Clerk on the USS Cotton Destroyer during the Korean War. In 1954, Jerry married Donna Korff at Grace Methodist Church in Rockford. Jerry lived in Rockford for 63 years, retiring from Rainbo Oil in 2007. Jerry also worked at W. F. and John Barnes and Greenlee Brothers and owned M & M Standard gas station as well as Mel Carlson Black Dirt Service. A Long time member of Christ United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Donna; sons, Michael and Mark (Mary) Tomlinson; daughter's, Jill Porter and Julie (John) Nicholds; grandchildren, Robert (Kati) Tomlinson, Shay (Joe) Woit, Brian and Mitch Porter, Liam and Margaret Nicholds; sister, Evelyn (Gerald) Doty; brother-in-law, Herb Page; sisters-in-law, Gyla Tomlinson and Lois Anderson; 'honorary son' Paul Glynn; many loved nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, in Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Road, Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Jane Eesley will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Jerry's name to Christ United Methodist Church. Cremation Society of Illinois assisted the family.
