Jeremiah Fenix

JEREMIAH B. FENIX, 23 ROCKFORD - Jeremiah B. Fenix, also known as Jeremy Burkholder, 23, of Rockford, passed away suddenly Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 6, 1989, in Rockford, the son of Steven and Jo Ann (Sachs) Burkholder. Jeremiah was currently enrolled taking classes through the University of Phoenix. Jeremiah enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from November 2008 to March 2012. He was deployed to Iraq with the 2-1 CAV, and Australia for Talisman Sabre and Yakima for training with the Japanese Army with 2-23 Infantry. Jeremiah was an avid bodybuilder, was on the RSTA track team, and received all city discus champ. He played football for Nelson Storm, Ken Rock, and Guildford High School his freshmen year. Jeremiah was on the basketball team for Conklin and Second Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a member of Second Congregational United Church of Christ where he received his confirmation. He is survived by parents, Steven and Jo Ann Burkholder of Rockford; brother, Tyler; grandparents, Kathyrn Burkholder, Raymond and Barbara Sachs; aunt, Susan (Bob) Shuttleworth; uncles, Raymond (Margo) Sachs II, Michael (Lyn) Burkholder, David (Debbie) Burkholder and Jeff (Sandy) Burkholder; and several cousins. Predeceased by grandfather, Michael G. Burkholder. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in Second Congregational United Church of Christ, 318 N. Church St., with the Rev. Jake Kim and the Rev. Dr. J. Michael Solberg officiating. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., North Main Chapel, 2811 N. Main St., Rockford.
