JOHN 'JACK' DIAMOND, 93 ROCKFORD - John "Jack" Diamond, 93, of Rockford, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012. John Diamond was born Dec. 23, 1919, in Rockford, son of John and Dorothy Diamond; he was the fourth of seven children. In 1942, John enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in an artillery unit in the South Pacific until honorably discharged in 1945, the end of the war. John had the distinction of serving in the war for its duration before returning home to his family. Upon returning to Rockford, John became an entrepreneur, collecting and selling antiques. Eventually, John and his partner Roger Nelson relocated their business to New Orleans, La., where they operated a successful business until retirement. John is survived by two younger brothers, Richard (Louise) and Everett (Betty), both of Rockford. John was predeceased by parents; four sisters; and his dear companion, Roger Nelson. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elmwood. The Diamond family would like to thank the staff at Park Strathmoor for their affectionate and responsible care of John.
