KATHERYN E. 'KAY' ADAMS, 92 BYRON - Katheryn E. "Kay" Adams, 92, longtime resident of Byron, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at home. Born May 23, 1920, in Scranton, Iowa, daughter of Will and Nellie (Horan) Duff. She was a 1937 graduate of Scranton High School. Married Frederick Adams on Sept. 11, 1945, in Scranton; he died June 12, 1987. Kay was employed more than 20 years at First National Bank & Trust in Rockford, then at Stillman Valley (Ill.) National Bank. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Byron and its Ladies Guild. In 1996, she was the church's Woman of the Year for her outstanding Christian services. She was also a board member and volunteer for Ogle County Hospice, belonged to Ogle County Senior Services and Byron Area Seniors, and held offices in Kishwaukee Grade School and Stillman Valley schools. Survived by sons, Michael (Brenda) Adams of Stillman Valley and John (Janell) Adams of Byron; daughter, Diane (Donald) Sedlak of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Julie (Justin) Miller, Jamie (Brooke) Adams, Dawn (Carl) Witte, Ashley Adams and Paige Adams; great-grandchildren, Jason, Tyanne, Malcolm, Cecilia and Kaitlyn. Also predeceased by parents; brother, Duane Duff; and sisters, Marie Zellmer and Helen Gliem. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Howard J. Barch as Celebrant. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. Rosary service.
