Kevin Lowery

KEVIN L. LOWERY, 42 ROCKTON - Kevin L. Lowery, 42, Rockton, Illinois passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at 11:15 a.m., Sunday, November 24, 2013 with family at his side praying for him and showering him with love as he went to be with his Lord. Born January 9, 1971 in Jacksonville, North Carolina, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Karen (Vander Kooi) Lowery, Sr. Graduated from Mt. Senario College with a BS in Criminology. Married the former Angela Ulrich in Rock City, Illinois, February 12, 2005. He started his police career with the city of Tacoma, Washington and then was hired to the Dept. of Homeland Security, Federal Protective Services as a police officer, area commander, then as an inspector. Kevin was a true American hero, steadfast in his defense of our nation as both a law enforcement officer and a special operations warrior. First Sergeant Kevin L. Lowery enlisted as an Infantryman in the US Army in 1989. Kevin served in the US Army for nearly 25 years. During his time in service, Kevin was assigned to B Company, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment; 81st Infantry Brigade; 7th Psychological Operations Group; and 2nd Psychological Operations Group. His final assignment was as Company First Sergeant, 393rd Tactical psychological Operation Company. Kevin deployed in support of Peacekeeping Operations to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Combat Operations in the Republic of Panama, Iraq and Afghanistan. Among his numerous military awards and decorations, he received two Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantryman's Badge and Ranger Tab. Survivors include wife, Angela Lowery; son, Nicholas Lowery; parents, Robert and Karen Lowery, Sr.; brother, Robert (Carol) Lowery, Jr., all of Rockton, Illinois; brother, Shawn (Peggy) Lowery, Sr., South Beloit, Illinois, best friend Scott Fisher and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his niece, Heaven Marie Lowery. Funeral Ceremonies will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, November 30, in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2336 Freeport Road, Rockton, Illinois with Pastor Doug Johnson and Scott Fisher co-officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Township Cemetery, 600 West Street, Rockton, Illinois. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home, Rockton Chapel, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, Illinois, from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 29.
