KRISTINE 'KRIS' MAE LEIX, 64 ROSCOE - Kristine "Kris" Mae Leix, 64, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Rockford Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side, after a 21/2 year battle with cancer. Kris was born Jan. 2, 1949, in Beloit, Wis., the daughter of loving predeceased parents, Harland and Hulda (Bakka) Bjerva. Married James "Jim" Leix of Montfort, Wis., on June 10, 1972, in Janesville, Wis. Kris graduated Janesville Senior High School in 1967; Luther College, Decorah, Iowa in 1971 with a B.A. in English; and received her masters from National Louis in English. She taught English and art for 36 years at Mabel, Minn.; Plainfield and Butler, Ind.; Luther College, Davenport, Iowa, and Harlem High School, where she taught for the last 20 years until her retirement in 2011. Kris put everyone first before herself. She was the original soccer mom before the concept became mainstream. She coached volleyball, track and youth baseball. She was a teacher, a tutor, a great cook. She loved boating, painting, reading, playing games with family and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a Chicago Cubs fan and a Green Bay Packers fan. She was a caregiver to all and loved a good laugh. She is survived by husband, Jim; son, Jason (Nirvana) with grandchildren, Andrew, Alex and Isabella; son, Aaron (Brianne) with grandchildren, Colton and Hayden; siblings, Charta Lockwood, Dan (Rose) Lockwood, Kim (Dorothy) Lockwood, Mark Lockwood, Randi Fleck, Alan (Patricia) Lockwood, Mary (Doug) Insko and John Lockwood. Predeceased by her beloved Dalmatian, Jerry. Kris was a soulmate, friend, sister, aunt, wife, mother and grandmother. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main St., Roscoe. Burial in Milton Lawn Cemetery, Janesville, Wis. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the church, and from 10 a.m. Saturday to time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for a fund to be established.
