Marilyn Ghiglieri

MARILYN ROSE LEWIS GHIGLIERI, 90 ROCKTON - Marilyn Rose Lewis Ghiglieri of Rockton, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the age of 90. She was born April 27, 1923, to Edna (Williams) and Howard Lewis. Marilyn grew up in Cherry, Illinois. She married her childhood sweetheart, Vernon, June 30, 1947, and they became longtime residents of Rockton and members of the Old Stone Church, both serving the community and the church in many ways. Marilyn graduated from Beloit College in 1946, and taught one year in Janesville. She was an English teacher at Hononegah High School for 30 years before retiring. In 1969, she received her Master's degree in education from Rockford College. Marilyn actively participated in the Rockton Women's Club, the New Century Book Club, and Hononegah Education Association and in many other activities. She was on the Talcott Library board and the board of the HOPE Foundation. Marilyn had a passion for life and for living. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, teacher, world traveler, reader and a lifelong learner. She always saw the best in everyone and everything. Marilyn touched the lives of others and made a difference each day. Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Susan Babcock and Sally Magnuson (Eric); five grandchildren, Tess Parrott (Bryan), Elizabeth Babcock, Luke Magnuson, Mark Magnuson (Krystal), and Lindsey Schneider (Jesse); four great-grandsons, Lucas, Reed, Gage, and Jackson; sister, Evelyn Bulli; brother-in-law, Dante Bulli; sister-in-law, Katherine Ghiglieri Comerouski; and by her nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon T. Ghilglieri; her parents; her parents-in-law; and brother-in-law, John Comerouski. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, in Old Stone Church, 101 E. Union, Rockton, with Pastor Dan Herman officiating. Burial in Rockton Township Cemetery. A visitation will be held in the church from 9:30 a.m. to service time Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Old Stone Church, the HOPE Foundation (Hononegah High School), Talcott Library, or the Rockton Fire Departments.
