MARK M. LEWIS, 67 ROCKFORD - Mark M. Lewis, 67, of Rockford passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Mark was born Nov. 5, 1944, in Elgin; the son of LaVerne and Rose (Ringhand) Lewis. He married Patricia (Peterson) on March 12, 1976. Mark was a utility inspector for Nicor Gas for more than 35 years until his retirement. He was a life member and past president of the LLL Society, serving as an officer for 28 years. Also, a life member of SM & SF Club and past member of the Trap Committee. Member of the Loyal Order of the Moose since the day he turned 21. Mark served as a longtime treasurer of the Rockford Association of Clubs and chairman of the Milestone Christmas Party. He served as secretary and treasurer of Illinois Licensed Beverage Association. He was a proud member of IBEW local 19 and numerous committees throughout his career at Nicor Gas including, the Activity Committee, Road Clean Up, Paint-A-Thon and Gaston's Camping Club. Mark enjoyed collecting and restoring classic cars. He was a proud member of Blue Ribbon Classic Chevy Club of Beloit, Chevy Classics Club of Florida and Walter P. Chrysler (WPC) Restorer's Club. Mark was a classic car enthusiast winning many trophies with his beloved 1957 Chevy, and his 1964 Dodge Polara. He also fulfilled his dream of owning a 'muscle' car when he purchased a brand new 2009 Dodge Challenger. He was always ready and willing to lend a hand whether it was selling roses for the Lions' Rose Day or mixed nuts for Singer Mental Health Center and NAMI. He was a fantastic husband, father and mentor. Mark enjoyed spending time with numerous groups of friends, touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Survived by his loving wife and best friend, Pat; daughter, Tammy Lewis; sons, Steve (Melissa) Lewis and Kevin (Tonya) Lewis of Buffalo, N.Y.; brother, Martin (Stacey) Lewis; sisters, Jane (Stan) Orr of Sandwich and Fran (Royal) Corbin of Plano; grandchildren, Jennifer Howe, Morgan and Claire Lewis and Kelly and Kristin Lewis; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Peterson; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; infant brother, Lawrence; and sister, Monica Trent. Service at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Road, with the Rev. Dean Parker and Father William Wentink officiating. Visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home, and from 10 a.m. Monday to time of service.
