MARVIN L. BURKHART, 81 LEAF RIVER - Marvin L. Burkhart, 81, of Leaf River died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, in Serenity Hospice Home, Oregon. He was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Rockford, the son of Jesse and Florence Alden Burkhart. He married Sandra Hunt on Nov. 17, 1956, in Rockford. Marvin was a Navy veteran, member of the Leaf River American Legion, Leaf River Baptist Church, Leaf River Lions Club, Ogle County Farm Bureau, and the Ogle County Pork Producers. He was also a board member of the Leaf River Fire Dept., and the Rock River Co-Op. Marvin farmed in the Leaf River area for many years and enjoyed bowling. Survivors include wife, Sandra; daughter, Wendy Burkhart of Freeport; son, Kim Burkhart of Leaf River; granddaughter, Tanya Canfield; great-grandchildren, Jacob Christensen and Cole Canfield; and sister, Lavonne (Ted) Bacino of Leaf River. Predeceased by his parents and daughters, Cindy and Tracy. Service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron, with Pastor Randy Newton officiating. Burial in Byron Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, in the funeral home.
