SISTER MARY ANTHONY MARELLI, O.P., 83 MICHIGAN - Sister Mary Anthony Marelli, O.P., died on October 17, 2013, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan. She was 83 years of age and in the 63rd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Anthony arrived at Boylan in 1971, working first as a guidance counselor and assistant principal. In November, 1983, she was appointed principal, a role she would fill until her retirement in June 2005. She was visionary in her leadership of the Boylan community. She guided the faculty through three Blue Ribbon award applications to their successful outcome. She spearheaded the addition of the Science and Arts Complex in 1995 and the Band Room in 2003. Under her direction, programs were expanded to include new types of offerings for the students, academically, spiritually, emotionally and technologically, among them the Academic Support Center, the Wellness Program and Natural Helpers, as well as the first CAD program in the Northern Illinois area. Sister Anthony was born in Rockford, Illinois, to Raymond and Dorothea (Willard) Marelli. She graduated from Bishop Muldoon High School in Rockford and received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Michigan, and a Master of Arts degree in education from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. Sister spent 54 years ministering in education: in Medina, Ohio; West Palm Beach, Miami, Miami Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Guayama, Puerto Rico, and Rockford, Illinois. She was Principal for six years at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The 34 years at Boylan formed the final chapters of her educational ministry in Catholic schools. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Michigan, in 2010. The Boylan community mourns her loss and asks your prayers forthose who were privileged to know and work with her.
