MELINDA K. 'MINDY' PETERSON, 51 BELVIDERE - Melinda K. "Mindy" Peterson, 51, of Belvidere died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, in her home, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born May 5, 1961, in Rockford; the daughter of Donnie M. and Beverly (Lersch) Johnson. Mindy was a graduate of North Boone High School, Class of 1979. She married Carl S. "Scott" Peterson on Oct. 10, 1986, in Belvidere. She was an outreach coordinator for the Keen Age Center. Mindy and Scott were members of Open Bible Church. Mindy volunteered with the Keen Age Center's fundraising dinners that were held at the Moose Club. She enjoyed cooking and baking and her cookies were second to none. Mindy enjoyed arts, crafts and ceramics and spending time with her niece and nephews. She was an avid Packer fan. She is survived by her loving husband, Scott of Belvidere; mother, Beverly Johnson of Poplar Grove; her twin sister, Belinda "Bindy" Johnson of Poplar Grove; sisters, Theresa (Ed) Gustafson of Rockford and Gwen McCormick of Lac Du Flambeau, Wis.; brother, Mark Johnson of Durand; niece, Kirsten; nephews, Shane, Tracy, Nathan, Kyle, Eric and Aaron; and other relatives and friends. Predeceased by her father and brother-in-law, Ron McCormick. Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., with Pamela Lojewski, chaplain of Heartland Hospice, officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at the funeral home.
