Norris Anderson

NORRIS RAYMOND ANDERSON, 90 ROCKFORD - Norris Raymond Anderson, 90, of Rockford, died peacefully at 3:43 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. Born January 9, 1923, in Rockford; the son of Martin and Agnes (Arnquist) Anderson. Graduate of East High School, Class of 1942. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Norris met the love of his life, Betty Jane Sorenson at a roller skating party in 1946, and they married June 5, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minn. Norris worked in the engineering department at WF and John Barnes for 26 years. After his retirement, he worked in the engineering department at John S. Barnes and Greenlee Bros. Company. Member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Star in the East Lodge 166, Shriners International Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, USA, and Freeport Consistory. In the early years, there were many summer vacations Norris and Betty had with their young sons, travelling around the U.S. In later years, they spent the winter months in Florida. Norris had many good times having morning coffee with friends and walking at the mall. Norris was very grateful for the life he had and time spent with family and friends. Norris is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, David (Nancy) Anderson of Aurora, Colo., Michael (Diane) Anderson of Marshalltown, Iowa, Bruce (Penny) Anderson of Goshen, Ind., and James (Mary Beth) Anderson of Verona, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four nieces; and one nephew. Predeceased by parents; brother, Clarence Anderson; sister-in-law, Hermina Anderson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gloria and Kenneth Gray; and niece, Mary Gray. Private services will be held.
