Robert Felker

ROBERT HUGH FELKER, 81 ROCHELLE - Robert Hugh Felker, 81, of Rochelle, passed away unexpectedly, and peacefully, Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, surrounded by his family. Bob was born April 8, 1931, in Freeport, son of Hugh and Ruth (Newcomer) Felker. He spent his childhood years in Mount Morris, then attended Iowa State University, earning a degree in Agriculture. He wed his childhood sweetheart, Suzanne Billig, on Aug. 18, 1951, in Mount Morris. Bob began his employment with Del Monte Corporation in 1954 and was a dedicated employee for 35 years, which included several cross country relocations. He retired in 1989. During retirement, Bob enjoyed gardening and keeping the farm beautiful. The family farm blossomed over the years with much careful management and determination. He was a lifelong caretaker of God's creation. For 32 years, he looked forward to being on the beach at Anna Maria Island, Fla. Hope, his Westie, held a special place in his heart. In the past, Bob participated in his community as Rochelle Chamber of Commerce president from 1978 to 1979, GREDCO and Rochelle Community Hospital Foundation board. Member of Golden K, Rochelle United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite Valley of Freeport, Tebala Shrine and, for more than 50 years, the Horicon Masonic Lodge 244. Bob is survived by wife of 62 years, Sue; and his three children, Bob of Rockford, Bill (Janell) of Crystal, Minn., and Barb (Ray) Reineck of Rochelle. Bob especially loved his grandchildren, Samuel Felker, Sarah (Jacob) Zaske, Suzie (Mark) Hester, Sage Felker, Ruthie Felker, Ali (Dylan) Reid and Brooke (Max) Sulzberger. He was blessed to welcome six great-grandchildren, Sierra, Caleb, Addison, Shayley, Claire and Grace. Also survived by brother, Albert (Marge) Felker; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob is predeceased by parents; and daughter-in-law, Georgia "Dee" Felker. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Rochelle United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Cindy Marino, Pastor Jacob Zaske and Chaplain Judy Williams. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Morris at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, with Masonic service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rochelle Horicon Masonic Lodge 244, Rochelle Golden K or Rochelle United Methodist Church.
