Rufus Zackery

RUFUS SAM ZACKERY, 75 MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. - Rufus Sam Zackery, 75, of Menomonee Falls, formerly of Rockford, departed this earthly life Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, in his home, after a short illness. He was born Dec. 21, 1936, in Glenville, Ark.; the son of Ulysses and Brooksie Zackery. Rufus lived in Wisconsin 22 years, coming from Rockford. He married the former Cleotha Wilson on Oct. 13, 1990. He was employed 28 years at Mattson Machine Shop and Dial Industries 10 years, retiring in 2001. He was a former member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Rockford. Rufus graduated from Blevins Training School in Blevins, Ark., Class of 1955. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed knowing the statistics. He also loved playing cards, pool, darts and hanging with his McDonalds crew. He was very proud of his garden and loved keeping his cars detailed to perfection. Rufus leaves to cherish many fun and loving memories, his devoted wife of 22 years, Cleotha; sons, Samuel (Annette ) Zackery, Michael Zackery (Marsha Redmond), and Rufus Zackery Jr. (Angela Moffitt); 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Deborah Sanders, Ronald and Kenneth Hills; brother, Winston (Ruth) Zackery; sisters, Mae Stanford, Ruby Dean (Lee) Morgan, Clara (Julius) Robinson and Carolyn (L.C.) Toney; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including sister-in-law, Bennie Zackery. Predeceased by his parents; sons, Gregory and Douglas Zackery; brothers, Raymond and Ulysses Zackery; sisters, Geneva Williams, Martha Zackery, Judy Devlin and Edna Gulley; and brother-in-law, John Stanford Sr. Service at noon Saturday, Oct. 6, at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, 3000 Rural St., with visitation from 10 a.m. to time of service. Burial in Forest Home Cemetery, Milwaukee. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 2429 W. State St.
