SHARON LYNNE POWELL ROCKFORD - Sharon Lynne Powell of Rockford passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, after a long illness. Sharon was born March 15, 1939, to Willard and Bunny (Verna) Yeater in Bismarck, N.D. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1957 and earned a B.S. in math from Jamestown College in Jamestown, N. D. Sharon married Darwin Powell on Aug. 27, 1960, in Jamestown. They taught school together in North Dakota until 1965 when they moved to Rockford, where she and Darwin raised a family of three sons. In 1979, she was asked to substitute "for a few days" at St. Edwards School. For the next 20 years, she taught math, there nurturing and inspiring her students, many with whom she remained close even after they graduated from college. After her retirement she continued to tutor students from her home. Sharon loved to read, especially mystery books, and work with her hands knitting and sewing. Sharon was a kind, generous, and dedicated wife, mother, and friend. Survived by husband, Darwin; sons, Jeffrey (Lisa) of LaCrosse, Wis., Mark of Rockford and Scott of Kansas City, Mo.; grandson, Christopher of LaCrosse; brother, Royce (Bridgit) Yeater of Chicago. Predeceased by Her parents and parents-in-law. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Thomas Doyle officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S.
