SHELDON 'SKELLY' SPEERS SR., 71 PROUD HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER, PAPA AND BROTHER ROCKFORD - Sheldon R. "Skelly" Speers Sr., 71, passed away at 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in SwedishAmerican Hospital, after a courageous fight with acute leukemia. Born Dec. 21, 1940, in Lanark, the son of Kenneth Speers and Mildred (Pontnack) Wissmach. Lived 35 years in Pecatonica. Married Bonnie (Lawler) on March 18, 1966, in Rockford. Owner of Skelly's Appliance Service for 26 years. Formerly employed by Chas. V. Weise for many years. Veteran of U.S. Navy serving on USS DuPont 941. Skelly touched everyone he met. He loved life, but most of all, he loved his family. He was a true gentleman in every sense. He never missed his children's or grandchildren's activities. He married the love of his life, Bonnie, and was married for 46 years. He enjoyed his weekly card games with his son and friends; and his "trips" to the casino with Bonnie. Survivors include wife, Bonnie; best "6" children anyone could ask for, Sheldon, 'Kelly' (Laurie, favorite daughter-in-law) Speers Jr., of Winnebago, Michelle (Don) Vesely of Janesville, Wis., Kim (Chris) Stender of Rockford; five beautiful grandchildren, Emily and Molly Speers, Cole Vesely, Chase and Addison Stender; brothers, Greg (Ken) Wissmach and Jack (Darlene) Boyer; sister, Doris Bilodeau; sister-in-law, Sandra Speers; brother-in-law, Jack; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Dixie (Mike) Magee, Phyllis Kleckler, Joyce Land and Merrill Lawler; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Predeceased by parents; brothers, Neil "Wimpy" Speers, Larry and Donald; sister, Marilyn Doty; in-laws, Bud and Mabel Lawler; brothers-in-law, Bob, Jerry, Dick, Al and Milton; sisters-in-law, Fern, Shirley and Beverly. A special thank you to our "extended family" from the 7th floor at SwedishAmerican Hospital for their love and compassion. Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in Sundberg Funeral Home Ltd., 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, with Pastor Steve Shullanberger officiating. Burial in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery, Seward. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the funeral home.
