VIOLETTE E. CARTER, 91 ROCKFORD - Violette E. Carter, 91, of Rockford died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at home, to enter the gates of Heaven. Born May 31, 1921, in Chicago, daughter of the Rev. Vere E. and Anna M. (McHoes) Stakemiller. Graduated from Rockford Central High School, Class of 1939. Married Frederick E. Carter on June 26, 1946, in Rockford. A gifted musician, she served as church pianist for more than 40 years. Member of Forest Hills Evangelical Free Church. Vi enjoyed volunteer work at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Survivors include son, Rick (Jessica) Carter of Roscoe; daughter, Sharon (Craig) Thomasson of Loves Park; granddaughters, Tracy Mitchell, Tammy (Steve) Jones, Sherry Thomasson and Kelly Carter; and great-grandchildren, Keegan and Kyler Mitchell, Abbey and Julianna Jones. Predeceased by parents; husband; and brother, Vaughn B. Stakemiller. Service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Forest Hills Evangelical Free Church, 5183 Pebble Creek Trail, Loves Park, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Private burial.
