James Woodard

JAMES ROBERT WOODARD ROCKFORD - James Robert Woodard of Rockford departed this earthly life Wednesday, March 10, 2010, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. Born April 3, 1940, in Russellville, Ky.; the son of Len and Mary Woodard. James lived in Rockford since 1956, coming from Russellville. Married the former Helen Ellis on Nov. 10, 1957, in Russellville. Employed more than 30 years by Chrysler Corp. before retiring in 1993. He was a charter member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Former mason and attended schools in Kentucky. James leaves to cherish many loving memories, sons, James R. (Felicia) Woodard, Curtis W. Woodard and Robert L. (Daisy) Woodard; daughters, Deloris Lane, Gloria (Leon) Foster and Elander Lynette (Lamar) French; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; sister, Willa Ruth Sanders; brothers, Walter L. (Hidegarde) Woodard and Fines Woodard; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents, and two brothers. Service at noon Monday, March 15, in First Born Ministry, 8213 N. Alpine Road, with visitation from 10 a.m. to time of service; Pastor Wendell Maynard will officiate. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 2429 W. State St.
