Gilbert Hernandez Obituary

Gilbert Hernandez, 51 LOVES PARK - Gilbert Hernandez, 51, of Loves Park passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011, in SwedishAmerican Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born Feb. 24, 1960, in Chicago, the son of Jose and Cayetana Delgado-Hernandez. He had a love for his family, music, video photography, movies and his Mexican culture. He will be remembered by his contagious laughter. Gil always stood up for his convictions, and his positive spirit will live on forever with his family. He is survived by his wife of 25 beautiful years, Maria Hernandez; children, Kayla and Chaz Hernandez; father, Jose Hernandez; brother, Jesse Hernandez; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother, Cayetana Delgado-Hernandez. Special thanks to Dr. Harvey Einhorn and his nursing staff, and thanks to the Wilson family and many other family and friends. Service at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, with visitation from 2 p.m. to service time. Cremation rites will be accorded. I worked with Gil at channel 23 and he was such a great guy. I remember his pride in his children and his obvious love for his wife. I also remember him bringing in the most amazing tamales around the holidays. I'm sad for his family and their loss, but so happy I had the chance to know him.

No words can express how sad and sorry we are about the loss of Gilberto. We have been blessed to have had him in our lives. I know that someday we will all be together again laughing, dancing, and playing some good old volleyball like we enjoyed. Gilberto was an amazing person who will be truley missed. Maria, kayla, and Chazz, your husband, dad and close friend of the familly will be truly be missed....He will always be in our hearts because he made so many beautiful memories with his video camera.
