James Clancy Obituary

James Richard Clancy 1950—2017
James Richard Clancy, 67, of Rockford, IL, passed away on the morning of Sunday, March 12, 2017. Born March 9, 1950, in Rockford, he was the son of Donald and Phyllis (Gustafson) Clancy. James graduated from Guilford High School in 1968. He went on to a career in manufacturing as a machinist that started at Twin Disc in the mid 1970's, and ended with retirement in December 2016, as a testman and longtime union member at United Technologies (formerly Hamilton Sundstrand) after 30 years. He was a member of the Blackhawk Athletic Club. James loved spending time with his family. He was a caring man whose limitless support of his family will always be remembered and cherished for the blessing he was to them. He was an avid Chicago sports fan with the Chicago Cubs at the very top of the list. He played many sports throughout the years including golf, tennis, softball, and basketball, but found his greatest passion and enjoyment while at the bowling alley. He loved the competition and camaraderie with everyone he bowled with and against over the last 50 years. James is survived by his son, Jason Clancy; daughter, Amber Clancy; grandchildren, Tanner Clancy, Jordan Clancy, and Amora Carvajal; sister, Carolyn Clancy. Predeceased by his parents.
Memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 4311 N. I recently was informed that Jim had died; I have fond memories of him from our Guilford days, where, although he was one of the "popular ones", he treated everyone as though they were friends, and was generous with his time. At a party in 2015, he kindly "took charge" of my invalid mother and talked with her for more than an hour while I helped the hostess. The world would be a better place if there were more people like Jim.

I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to Amber and other family and friends. It's times like these when the loving promises of our Heavenly Father such as knowing that we can see our loved ones again can bring us comfort and soften some of the pain we feel in our hearts. 1 Thessalonians 4: 13,14

Everyone who knew Jim loved bowling with him, and we will always treasure our memories of our time with him. I bowled with Jim in the Friday morning league at Don Carter Lanes in the 1990s and, most recently, in senior king of the hill. He seemed so well on the road to recovery a few weeks ago that it was a shock to us to hear the news last Sunday. Jim was a wonderful man -- always, ALWAYS, in a good mood and enjoyable to talk to. I also look back on his love of the Cubs and the Chicago Bears, and, feel thankful that the Cubs -- at last! -- provided him (as well as millions of others) overwhelming joy last fall! Jim was a great man, a great bowler and someone I was proud and privileged to have called my friend!
