EUGENE THOMAS CARROLL, 81 GENOA - Eugene Thomas Carroll, 81, of Genoa died Friday, May 27, 2011, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. Born Dec. 26, 1929, in Vienna, S.D., to John and Lillian (Knadle) Carroll. Married Elaine Griswold on Aug. 22, 1953. Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked at Automatic Electric (formerly Leich Electric) in Genoa for 32 years and at Hines Lumber in Kirkland for more than 10 years. Survived by wife, Elaine; son, Jeff of Morrison; daughters, Rhonda (Jim) Johnson and Lisa Carroll, all of Genoa; granddaughters, Stefanie (Greg) Sullivan of Sycamore and Kelsey (Jake) Morgan of Mount Morris; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jayci and Tyler; brothers, Laurin (Rosemary), Russell (Bernadette), Douglas (Ellen) and Harvey (Sharon); sisters-in-law, Glennis Carroll, Ruby Griswold and Peggy Griswold; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Jack (Fern) Carroll and David Carroll. Service at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, at Faith United Methodist Church, 325 S. Stott St., Genoa, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Diss officiating. Burial in Genoa Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Slater-Butala Funeral Home of Genoa, and from 10 a.m. Friday to time of service at the church. Memorials can be made for Eugene Carroll in care of the local family-owned and -operated Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main St., Genoa, IL 60135. Elaine:
We are so sorry to hear about Gene's passing. You had many years together and now God will give you the strength to live on without him. We are so happy that you have moved back to Sycamore and will be closer to your hometown. I feel bad that I can't be there for the funeral, but on my next trip to Illinois we will stop and visit with you. I think the last time we saw you was at mother's 90th birthday. You and I go back a long way and had many fun and happy times together. Stay strong and keep your good Methodist faith.
