CLARENCE J. SCHAFMAN, 81 ROCKFORD - Clarence J. Schafman, 81, of Rockford, died at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013, in his home. Born Feb. 21, 1932, in Rockford; the son of Clarence L. and Esther (Behling) Schafman. Graduate of West High School, class of 1950. Served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sgt. during the Korean War, receiving an Honorable Discharge in August 1954. He married Esther L. Neumueller July 16, 1955, in Rockford. Clarence worked for Woodward Governor Company for 42 years, retiring in 1992 as a purchasing agent. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served on the finance committee. Also a former member of VFW Belvidere, Elks Club, and Moose Club. He is survived by his wife, Esther; children, Steven Schafman of Anaheim, Calif., and Jodi Wear of Rockford; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jared, and Jeremy (Jen) Wear; and one great-granddaughter, Teagan; brother, Dan (Nancy) Schafman of Roscoe; sister-in-law, Cora Schafman of Rock Island, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by an infant sister; parents; and brothers, Richard and Roger (Beverly) Schafman. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 600 N. Horsman St., with the Reverend David Thies, officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 12 noon until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service in the church. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Northern Illinois Hospice, 4215 Newburg Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. Arrangements by Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd.
