ANN L. MARTIN, 72 ROCKFORD - Ann L. Martin, 72, of Rockford died at 4:35 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, in Provena St. Anne Center. Born March 18, 1940, in DeKalb; the daughter of Fred and L. Eleanor (Gilchrist) Howe. Graduate of Belvidere High School. She married Malcolm Martin on April 30, 1983, in the Old Stone Church in Rockton. Ann was a secretary for Equitable of Iowa. She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she participated in the quilting club. One of the thrilling moments that Ann had was presenting a beautiful quilt made by the church quilters to a family who was going to move into a "Habitat for Humanity" house. The house was built by men from Christ Methodist Church including her husband, Malcolm. She enjoyed playing golf as co-chair along with Connie Daily in the 9-Hole Ladies Golf League at Sandy Hollow Golf Course. Survived by husband, Malcolm; children, Jody (Neill) Armstrong of Texas and Jeff Sundberg of Arizona; stepchildren, Gregory Martin, Bruce (Cindy) Martin and Jennie (Doug) Oosterhaus; grandchildren, Phoebe Sundberg, Hute, Aelee and Kiet Armstrong, and Brian, Sean, Terry and Lily Martin; six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joyce (Gene) Ashley and Chuck (Sue) Howe. Predeceased by her parents; and father of her children, Roger Sundberg. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Road., with visitation from 9 to 10:45 a.m.; the Rev. Jane Eesley will officiate.
