ARLOU SMITH, 81 ROCKFORD - Arlou Smith, 81, of Rockford departed this earthly life Monday, May 28, 2012, in her home. Born July 29, 1930, in Camden, Ark., the daughter of Junior and Alice Hicks. She lived in Rockford since the early 1950s, coming from Camden. Arlou married Grover Smith in August 1950; he preceded her in death. She was employed as a machine operator by Amerock Corp., 27 years before retiring. Arlou was a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, serving on the Mothers Board and a member of the Usher Board. She attended schools in Arkansas. Arlou leaves to cherish many loving memories, sons, Raymond (Alberta) Smith, Bobby (Barbara) Smith and Don (Robin) Smith; daughter, Alice (Larry) Douglas; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, David (Mary) Hicks and Earl (Verna) Hicks; sister, Christine (Jesse) Rogers; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased also by parents; son, Leonard Smith; sisters, Shirley Mitchell and Geraldine Thompson; and brother, Richard Hicks. Service at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 301 Klines Ave., with visitation from 11 a.m. to time of service; Pastor Calvin Malone will officiate. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 2429 W. State St.
