Betty (Yi Yang Ye) McDonald Obituary
Betty McDonald (Yi Yang Ye) 1936—2018
Betty McDonald, a beautiful strong woman, beloved wife of Philip E. "Skip" McDonald Jr., proud mother of daughters, Micha (Rockford) and Okcha McDonald (Chicago), passed away February 4, 2018, embraced by the love of her family and dear friends. Married nearly 48 years, Betty, with Skip, taught us what devotion looks like. We are grateful that her life intertwined with ours. Born July 21, 1936, in Daejeon, Betty's mother and father predeceased her in her native South Korea, as did her sister, Yang Sun, whose beautiful children graced Betty and Skip's family after this tragic loss. Her brother, Kyu Sok (Rockford) also passed before her, as well as Betty's father and mother-in-law, Philip E. McDonald Sr., and Elizabeth McDonald (Shirland), transitioning with Betty's loving support. Betty's brothers and sisters-in-law, Myong (Rockford), Bruce B. and Deborah McDonald (Shirland), James D. and Barbara McDonald (Rockford), Ann McDonald-Cacho and Bernard Cacho (Berkeley, CA), and Robert B. and Michelle McDonald (Wisconsin Rapids, WI), and numerous wonderful nieces, nephews and a grand-nephew miss her. The family thanks Andrew of Meals on Wheels, Barb, Lori and Sandy of Best Home Care, Northern IL Hospice nurses, Jennifer and Katelyn, Chaplain Jonathan, social worker, Keri, and all the loving hospice volunteers – whose support was unfailing.
Plans for celebrations of Betty's life will be announced. The family asks that gifts made in Betty's memory flow to this treasured organization, Northern IL Hospice, in lieu of flowers. Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. For online register, visit weltefuneral.com.
