BILLIE DEAN PORTER, 75 ROSCOE - Billie Dean Porter, 75, of Roscoe, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. Born in Roscoe to Grover and Gladys (Swanson) Porter; a Hononegah graduate of 1956, he attended the University of Illinois for two years. He married his high school sweetheart, Sally Matson in 1958. They would have been married 55 years on August 24. Billie owned a fourth-generation family business, Porter Bros., and retired in 1996. He was a very active, community-minded citizen involved in many organizations and local events. He was also a long-time member and District Governor of the Lion's Club. He was a member of the EAA and enjoyed going to the fly-ins. He was a photography buff and an avid reader; he often read a book-on-tape a day and was always by his phone and computer. He and Sally spent many enjoyable years traveling the globe together. He is survived by his wife, Sally; son, Wade (Darra) Porter; daughters, Karrie (Tom) Porter Brace, Laura (Rich Schlagel) Porter, and Lisa (Tim) Mareth; grandchildren, Eliott (Emily), Allister, and Madeleine Porter; Aaron, Kenton (Kara) Brace and their son, Owen; Emma Porter; and Bradshaw and Parker Mareth. Survived by his brothers and sister, John (Phyllis) Porter, Charlotte (Ron Larrison) Porter Cannell, Stanley (Lila) Porter, and Robert (Joyce) Porter; sister-in-law, Lee Anna (James) Garetson; and brother-in-law, Robert "Butch" (Pamela) Matson. Memorial Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, in Honquest Family Funeral Home, Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe, IL 61073.
