CAROLINE LANI, 100 ROCKFORD - Caroline Lani, 100, of Rockford died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Alpine Fireside Health Center. Born Aug. 23, 1910, in Rockford, the daughter of Paul and Rosalia (Gatti) Castigloni. Caroline married Paul Lani on Sept. 13, 1930, in Louisville, Ky.; he died in 1978. She worked at W. Shanhouse and Son. Member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, St. Bernadette Senior Citizens and Rockford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 42 years. Caroline will be remembered for her great cooking, as a seamstress and being an avid gardener. Survived by children, Laverne Lani and Louise (George) Milne; grandchildren, Pamela (Gary) Coleman, Brian (Julie) Lani, Mark (Lillianna) Milne and Craig (Rita) Milne; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Coleman, Christopher and Jacqueline Lani, Elizabeth and Alexander Milne; and sister, Ann Linn. Predeceased also by her parents; brother, Charles Castigloni; and sisters, Virginia Smith and Mary Jakeway. Special thank-you to the caregivers at Alpine Fireside Health Center for their special care and dedication to Caroline. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave., with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. in the church hall. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
