CARTHEL S. ALEXANDER ROCKFORD - Carthel S. Alexander of Rockford departed this earthly life Saturday, October 19, 2013, in his home, after a long illness. He was born January 9, 1940, in Little Rock, Arkansas; the son of Sam Alexander and Inez Harlan. Carthel lived in Rockford since 1969, coming from Little Rock. He married the former Charlene Sago, February 9, 1977. He was employed as a assembler by Chrysler Corporation 30 years before retiring in 1999. Carthel was a member of Greater New Jerusalem Church of God In Christ, serving as a minister. He attended schools in Little Rock. Carthel leaves to cherish many loving memories, his loving wife, Charlene; three daughters, Crystal (Virgil Batson) Alexander, Alicia (Thomas Tillman) Alexander, and Sheryl (Bill Dickens) Alexander; five sons, Isaac Alexander, Anthony (Melissa) Sago, Antonio (Shonna) Sago, Eric Alexander and Delmar (Andrea) Alexander; 20 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Bowman; two brothers, William (Vivian) and Luke Alexander; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; son, Carthel Owens; three sisters; and one brother. Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Greater New Jerusalem C.O.G.I.C., 3416 Liberty Street. Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 2429 W. State Street.
