CHARLES PURIN SR., 96 LOVING FATHER AND PAPA ROCKFORD - Charles Purin Sr., 96, of Rockford passed away at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at home. He was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Bingham, Utah, son of Frank and Natalina (Silva) Purin. He relocated to Rockford and married Rose Cannova on July 28, 1940. She died March 16, 1999. He was employed as a salesman for many years. He was a Medic during World War II, serving the European Campaign with the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Anthony Church. Charles was also the oldest male member of the Venetian Club, past member of the Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Club and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Charles was a very avid golfer and bowler into his 90s. He was a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather. He visited every new baby in the family daily and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events. He referred to them as his little heroes. Special thank you to Dr. Koepsell and Dr. Hayes and their staffs for the loving care they gave our Dad. We would also like to thank his special friend, Mike Truitt, who as an EMT, saved his life numerous times. The family is grateful for the loving care that Linda gave Dad for the many years he resided with her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family. Survivors include son, Chuck (Jane) Purin; daughter, Linda Ciaccio; grandchildren, John (Anne) Ciaccio, Regina (Gene) Edmonds, Chuck (Deanne) Ciaccio, Erika (Aaron) Link, Michael (Christi) Purin and Christopher Purin; great-grandchildren, Austin, Jacob, Jonathan, Joshua, Alec, Brianna, Abbey, Alyssa, Elliott, Madeline, Dominic and Nicholas; dear cousin, Rose (Pep) DelPra; and other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by parents; and dear cousin, Theresa Gasparini. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at St. Anthony Church, with Franciscan Friars officiating. Interment afterward will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the church.
