CLIFFORD S. MITCHELL, 91 NAPERVILLE - Clifford S. Mitchell, 91, of Naperville, IL and former Rockford resident, passed away June 10, 2014. Clifford was born on April 15, 1923, in LeRoy, Minnesota to George and Saraetta Mitchell. Clifford married Betty Jean Mitchell (nee Wilson) on February 20, 1944, and celebrated 70 years of marriage. Clifford served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II under the Army command of General Douglas MacArthur in the western Pacific. Following WWII, Clifford ensued a 30+ year career with Prudential Insurance Company. He served as a District Manager in Rockford. Clifford loved his family and friends. He loved nature, boating, fishing, camping, traveling and art. Clifford maintained a strong Christian faith and a love of Christ. Beloved husband of Betty Jean Mitchell; twin brother to Clyde Mitchell; father to Barbara Work and Kenneth (Kathleen) Mitchell; grandfather to Dionne (Wels) Jackson, Ryan (Whitney) Work, Emily (Samuel) Heidenreich, Gregory (Maura) Mitchell; great-grandfather of seven; and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his beloved daughter, Susanne Hansen; his brothers, Marvin, Verl, Russell, and Edward Mitchell; and his sister-in-law, Lydia Hoeft. A private memorial service was held June 18, 2014. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
