CLIFTON C. BENDER, 91 ROCKFORD - Clifton C. Bender, 91, of Rockford passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013, at his home. He was born May 5, 1922, in Belvidere, the son of Carl and Helen (Howe) Bender. A graduate of Belvidere High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He married Beatrice L. Overton February 1944, in Belvidere. Clifton worked as a line supervisor for Sundstrand's in Rockford until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Illinois Sherriff's Association, The Northern Masonic Jurisdiction USA in Freeport, Shriners International, the Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club and a past member of the Harmony Club. He is survived by his sons, Dale A., Neil (Suzie) and Brian Bender; daughters, Carol (John) Harmon, Kathleen (Jerry) Devine and Mary (Terry) Taylor; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; brother, Clayton Bender; sisters, Betty Gunderson and Mary (Don) Zierke. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beatrice; son, Karl Bender; daughter, Denise Bender; 3 grandchildren, Kevin and 2 granddaughters in infancy; 1 great-granddaughter in infancy. Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013, in Belvidere Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Robert R. Kopp, pastor First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment Garden Prairie Cemetery.
