DONALD L. CLINITE, 90 ROCKFORD - Donald L. Clinite, 90, of Rockford died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, in Rockford. Born Oct. 4, 1922, on the family farm near Cherry Valley, son of William Leonard and Bessie M. (Wright) Clinite. Donald was a member of the first graduating class at West High School in 1941. Donald married his high school sweetheart, Frances V. Shaw on March 1, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in the 106th Infantry Division during World War II. During the Battle of the Bulge, he was taken prisoner and held as a prisoner of war. After the war, Donald was self-employed as a general contractor. In 1972, Donald became a building inspector and later retired as head of the building department for Winnebago County. He was a member of the Star in the East Masonic Lodge 166 for 63 years. Donald was also a member of the Moose lodge. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and golfing. Survivors include wife, Frances; daughter, Debra E. (Gary) Chessare of Caledonia; son, Douglas (Kathleen) Clinite of Rockford; sister, Nancy (Roger) Strand of Merrill, Wis.; and grandsons, Brody Clinite and Justin Schulz. He is predeceased by sisters, Margaret Cunningham, infant Mary Elizabeth Clinite and infant twin sisters; and brothers, Robert, Rodney and James Clinite (four years). Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Road; Pastor Jane Eesley will officiate. Burial in Flora Church Cemetery, Kirkland, where Masonic and military rites will be given in his honor. Visitation from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at the church.
