DONALD MARSTON GRAND MOUND, Iowa - Donald Marston was born May 13, 1922, in Rockford, Ill., to Robert and Nellie Marston. Married Elnora Soenksen on June 23, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound, Iowa. Attended Coe College, Oxford University, University of Iowa and Northern Illinois University. Donald started his teaching career in Monticello teaching history. He taught in Calamus and finished his teaching career at Rockford Auburn High School. Served in the Army in World War II, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. Member of the Coe 22, a group of Coe's students who fought in World War II. Member of Court Street Methodist Church. He volunteered at the Dells Environment Education Center, Rockford Art Museum, Tinker Cottage and Midway Village. He had a passion for history and government and continued to be an avid reader of both throughout his life. Surviving are daughters, Bobbe Marston (Jim Ziv) and Becky Marston (Douglas Stansil); granddaughters, Megan Stansil-Reilly (Brendan Reilly) and Caitlin Stansil: great-grandson, Parker Stansil; sister, Betty Blake; many nieces and nephews; and many friends. Predeceased by wife, Elnora; son, John; parents; and brothers, Allen Marston and Wendall Marston. Memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at Severson Dells in Rockford. Military graveside service by the Eugene McManus American Legion Post 238 of DeWitt, was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound.
