Donald McDonald Obituary

Donald Robert McDonald, 86 ROCKFORD - Donald "Mac" or "Bob" Robert McDonald, 86, of Rockford died peacefully after a lengthy illness Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Provena St. Anne Center, sur-rounded by his loving family. Bob was born Jan. 26, 1925, to James and Martha McDonald. Graduated from Darlington (Wis.) High School, where he played football, and went on to enlist in the Army in 1944. Married Anna Mae Crotty on Feb. 12, 1947. Mac was most proud of being a cheese maker and machinist. He is also the proud recipient of the Walter P. Reuther Distinguished Service Award for his dedication to organized labor. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center and Provena St. Anne Center for their loving care. Bob is survived by wife, Anna; sister, Ruth; daughters, Pat Hagar, Peggy (Mike) Gorkowski, Pam (Russ) Wenz; son, Mike McDonald; grandchildren, Stephanie Buczynski Janczak, Stan (Gena) Buczynski, Shelley (Jerry) Dover, Craig Gorkowski, Mike (Brenda) McDonald, Robert (Michelle) McDonald, Kristin Gorkowski, James Hagar, Scott Wenz, Eric Wenz and Nick Wenz; great grandchildren; Vinny Dover, Makayla Janczak, Bryce Buczynski, Lucas Buczynski, Maximus Buczynski, Lauren Hagar, Shana (Tyler) Ruff, Austin McDonald, Richard Rafferty, Alicia McDonald, Brittany Vervinck, Shawn Bone and Amanda Bone; and great-great-grandson, Aries. He is predeceased by his parents; two sons-in-law; two sisters; and one brother. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, in St. Rita Catholic Church, 6284 Valley Knoll Drive, with visitation from 9 a.m. to prayer time at 10:15 a.m. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 13, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, with rosary at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for a fund to be established at a later date. Express condolences online at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.

Anna, Peggy and all of the McDonald Family. We were sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Anna and Peggy you were always dedicated and caring for not only Bob, but the other patients at Provena St. Ann's. Thank you so much for always watching over Rosie Corirossi. We will miss you at the nursing home, but grateful that Bob's suffering is over. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Chuck and I were sadend to hear of Mac's passing. We were neighbors and friends for years in Rockford. Mac was very passionate about life and his work but especially his love for his wife Ann. We treasure our memories of our times with them.

Anna, Peggy, & family,
I will miss seeing Bob in the halls of PSAC and giving him a hard time about being a Packer fan. He was a great guy with one of the best and most loving families I have ever seen. He will be missed.
