DONALD E. ROUSH, 85 LOVING HUSBAND, DAD AND PAPA LOVES PARK - Donald E. Roush, 85, of Loves Park passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012. Born Sept. 22, 1927, in Loves Park, son of Earl and Eva Jane (Gross) Roush. Married Joan Saunders on June 20, 1951, in Albion, Wis. Member of Carpenters Local 792 for many years working for various contractors in the area including Gerald Nordmoe Contractors for 23 years, until a 1980 disabling accident. Sports was his big interest. A 1945 graduate of Harlem High School where he played in all sports and is on the 1945 Harlem Wall of Fame for football. Graduated from Milton College in 1950 where he is in the Athletic Hall of Fame and earned the Sayre Athletic Award his sophomore year, 1948. Don played baseball for three Rockford teams, B&K Tap, Rockford Foresters and five years for the Blackhawk Athletic Club. His greatest thrill was coaching baseball at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for 8 to 12 year olds and winning the championship. Served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and U.S. Army for two years in Paris, France, during the Korean Conflict. Member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles 392, American Legion Carlson Post 1209 and Clifford Johnson VFW Post 9759. Survivors include wife, Joan; daughter, Deborah and Sam Hildreth; granddaughter, Rebeka Roush; great-granddaughter, Leiya; daughter-in-law, Karla Dobnick-Roush; sister, Louise and Herold Broesder; sister-in-law, Donna Roush; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; sons, Michael and James; brothers, Robert and Richard Roush; sisters, Eva Mae Blume and Evelyn Bjorklund. Service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4700 Augustana Drive, Rockford. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
