DORIS JONELLE STEWART COLEMAN ROCKFORD - Doris Jonelle (Stewart) Coleman, daughter of the late Clara Stewart, was born March 18, 1929, in Franklin, N. C. She accepted the Lord as her savior at an early age and was active in her local church, the Church of God of Prophecy in Franklin, N.C. She attended schools in Franklin, graduating from high school in 1947. Doris attended St. Augustine College. Her career included working as a substitute teacher in Franklin, as well as working in the hospitality industry at the Franklin Lodge and Golf Course as a waitress. She was united in holy matrimony to her long-time sweetheart, Robert Isaiah Coleman on Aug. 28, 1955, in Franklin. Two children were born to this union, Janice and Thomas. Shortly after marriage, Robert and Doris moved from Franklin to Rockford, where they established their home. They remained residents of Rockford until April 2012. They made a transition in April 2012 to Atlanta to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Doris was a full-time homemaker, mother and devoted wife. She enjoyed caring for her family, gardening, cooking and baking as well as sharing the Lord's Word with anyone. Her passion was a ministry for the sick and shut-in. Doris leaves to mourn, her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Robert Isaiah Coleman; devoted daughter, Janice Coleman-Washington (Timothy) of Smyrna, Ga.; beloved son, Thomas (Bettina) of Austell, Ga., grand-daughters, Brittany Washington-Phillips (Trenton) of College Park, Ga., Kuchell Neely of Austell and Anya Washington of Smyrna; sister, Cora Inez McClain of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, members of her church family and other friends. Predeceased by parents; mother in-law, Annie Mae Coleman; father in-law, Henry Coleman; and brothers, James Stewart, Avery Stewart and Charles Stewart. Funeral at 11 a.m. Monday, July 23, at St. Paul Church of God in Christ, 1001 Bishop Washington Ave., Rockford. Burial in Willwood Cemetery.
