Dorothy Mae Cwynar Obituary
Dorothy Mae Cwynar 1925—2018
Dorothy Mae Cwynar, 93, of Rockford passed away August 3, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born May 3, 1925, in Rockford to Alex and Pearl (Waskiewicz) Dzik. Attended Harrison High School in Chicago until 1942, when her family returned to Rockford. At the age of 16, she helped support her family by working rather than continuing high school. After attending Brown's Business School, she held secretarial positions at Rockford Sheet Metal, Ingersoll Milling Company, and Lundholm Surgical Group. Married Julian A. Cwynar on February 14, 1953, and celebrated 59 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2012. Became a full-time homemaker to raise five children, but managed to earn her GED while her children were young. A member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Dorothy used her creative abilities to make crafts for the annual Polish Fest. Dorothy and her friend, Catherine, never missed a good garage sale. She dabbled in painting and loved creating craft projects with her grandchildren. Her projects were hand-stitched once her Singer treadle sewing machine became irreparable. Dorothy volunteered as a Den Mother, was a docent at Midway Village Museum, and a member of a local Garden Club, but her favorite times were spent with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Daniel (Sherri Rudy) Cwynar, Julie (Gary) Peterson, Janet (Peter) Lucas, Douglas (Rose) Cwynar, all of Rockford, and Dale (Lorri) Cwynar of Argyle, WI; grandchildren, Jessica (Nick) Johnson, Katie and Kristen Peterson, Shane (Catherine) Lucas, Michele (Joel) Stevens, Alexa Cwynar, Blake and Grace Cwynar; great-grandchildren, Avery, Harper and Lucas Johnson and Anna Lucas; sister-in-law, Antoinette (Ann) Decker; brother-in-law, Edward Cwynar; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her husband; parents; parents-in-law, Anthony and Julia Cwynar; brother, Clarence Dzik; sisters-in-law, Josephine Dzik and Donna Cwynar; and brother-in-law, Norman Decker. Special thanks to the many caregivers who crossed Dorothy's path from Peak Medical Home Care, Siena, Crimson Pointe and Wesley Willows.
