Edna Alice Franklin-Ring-Ballinger 1921—2018
Edna Alice Franklin-Ring-Ballinger, 97, of Rockford, died peacefully Friday, August 10, 2018, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born May 23, 1921, in Rockford; the daughter of Edwin August and Ruth Marie (Shelhart) Eklund. She graduated from Rockford Central High School in 1939. Edna married Glen Dale Ballinger on December 17, 2005, in Garden Prairie. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Rockford and attended First Baptist Church in Belvidere. She was an active member and secretary at the Adeline Chapter #118 in Belvidere for 11 years, Order of the Eastern Star in Belvidere for 17 years and the Order for more than 50 years. A Grand Lecturer for 35 years and Grand Representative to Wisconsin for 2 years. Also a member of Alabet Temple #31, Daughters of the Nile and the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Freeport. Edna enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, word search and exploring on the computer. Edna is lovingly survived by her children, Linda (Jack) Hauser, Sandra Franklin and George (Tanya) Franklin, all of Rockford and Michael (Janice) Franklin of Columbus, OH; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Carl (Edith) Eklund of Englewood, FL; sisters-in-law, Bonnie House of Hudson, FL and Joyce Pierce of Rockford; stepchildren, Gary (Pearl) Ballinger of Loves Park, Evelyn (Richard) Spate of Belvidere and Andy (Kathy) Ballinger of Broadhead, WI; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husbands, George Franklin, Stanley Ring and Glen Ballinger; granddaughter, Lisa Maurici; and her parents.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2018, with a visitation starting at 10 a.m. at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with Pastor Bobby Sheets of Riverside Community Church in Machesney Park officiating. Interment at Willwood Burial Park in Rockford.
