Ernest Dobbs Obituary
ERNEST R. DOBBS, 74 ROCKFORD - Ernest R. Dobbs, 74, of Rockford, passed away at home with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Ernest was born on March 30, 1939, in Port Andrew, WI, the son of Ernest R. and Catherine Morgan Dobbs. Ernest married Linda L. Porter on August 17, 1958. Ernest worked for ELCO Industry as a tool and die maker for 42 years. He and Linda attended Maywood Evangelical Free Church in Rockford. Ernest loved racing late model stock cars at Rockford Speedway and was a Jeff Gordon fan. He was an avid fisherman and loved taking his four sons to Canada every year fishing. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and loved to do woodworking. Ernest is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Greg (Trina), Rod (Linda), Gary (Brenda) and Mike (Joey); 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Deloris, Donavoine, Madealine, Gloria and step-brother, Wayne. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; two great-grandchildren; and his half-brother, John. A service to celebrate Ernest life will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2014, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park. Visitation for Ernest will be Sunday January 26, 2014, from 3 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
