ESTHER BIXBY, 95 ROCKFORD - Esther Bixby, 95, of Rockford, passed away April 30, 2013. Born August 1, 1917, the daughter of Olaf and Inga Olsen. Married to Milton Bixby (1917-2006) for 61 years. Survived by son, Mark Bixby; granddaughters, Lindsey (Kevin) Girard and Sarah (Shane) Doyle; grandson, Andrew (Maggie) Bixby; and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jackson, Elliott, Avery, Harper, and Baby Girard. She loved collecting precious dolls, wearing hats, playing bridge, visiting (and talking about) Norway, and attending Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Her grandchildren will remember her playing the piano while they sang Christmas Carols and instilling in them a love of tradition (especially at the holidays); sweetly saying "cho-cho" whenever they were sad or hurt; wearing adorable aprons and serving wet scrambled eggs at breakfast, cold cans of flavored cream soda on hot days, chocolate-covered graham crackers and iced oatmeal cookies for snacks, and carrots/broccoli in ice water as appetizers before formal suppers; sending letters and birthday cards with odd expressions in quotation marks; calling the Lunch Bunch to order and doling out dollars for shopping sprees at Kmart afterward; shooing them away from sneaking into the second bedroom because it was too messy; making gingerbread man cakes; and playing "store" with anything and everything around the small house on Robert Avenue. She will be buried next to Milton in Scandinavian Cemetery. Private memorial.
