George Joseph Croft 1918—2018
Mr. George Joseph Croft, born on October 15, 1918, in Rockford, Illinois, to the late Mary (Bick) Croft and the late Frank Croft, passed away at age 99, on July 30, 2018, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He graduated from Rockford Central High School in 1936. From 1943 to 1946, George served in the United States Army in World War II, and he also worked as a graphic artist/printer at Wilson-Hall Printing Company for 47 years until he retired in 1983. George was the beloved husband of the late Viola (Larson). He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Croft; and sister, Mary Duller. George is survived by his sons, Michael (Jean Jennings) Croft and Carl (Steve Fletcher) Croft; daughter, Julie Cheeseman; and grandson, Jack (Kim)Cheeseman. George was an avid bowler for most of his life and was the secretary of his bowling league for many years. He enjoyed teaching cribbage and playing with his friends and had a wonderful time on the Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2016. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Rockford, Illinois and attended St. Patrick Church in Colorado Springs, CO.
Friends and family members may attend the graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2018, at Arlington Memorial Cemetery (across from the pet cemetery), 6202 Charles Street, Rockford. Otherwise, there will be a luncheon following the graveside service at the Stockholm Inn on Charles Street at approximately noon or 12:30 p.m. Inquiries may be sent to [email protected]
