Obituary Condolences

H. ALICE PERSAUD, 70 ROCKFORD - H. Alice Persaud, 70, of Rockford passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Emeritus. Born February 9, 1943, in Chicago; the daughter of Harriet (Wernick) and George Whitfield Campbell. She earned a Masters Degree in French at University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, which is where she met her future husband, Patrick David Persaud. Alice worked for the Rockford Public School District and helped establish the Zion Lutheran After School Tutoring Program. She was a longtime member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Alice was truly devoted to her children and grandchildren, who meant the world to her. She also cared deeply about the lives of the children in the community. One of Alice's passions was crafting, and she loved being a part of the Funderberg and Holly Berry craft shows. Besides crafting, Alice also loved photography, food and cooking, her flowers and gardening, and Jellyfish, through which she found peace and beauty. Alice spoke fluent French, enjoyed the French culture and took many trips to France. Every year, Alice was ready to bet on the Kentucky Derby horses, which came from one of her favorite childhood memories of visiting the track with her father. The Persaud Family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Emeritus for their kind and compassionate care. Alice is lovingly survived by her children, David (Heather) Persaud, Laura Persaud, Michael Persaud, Mark Persaud and Christopher Persaud; grandchildren, Gareth, Kevin, Brea, Aric, Ezra and Snow Violet; as well as many special and dear friends. Predeceased by her parents and husband, Patrick. Funeral Service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 2715 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, with visitation from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Rev. Janet Wold will officiate. Burial in Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Park at 1 p.m. on Monday. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established for her grandson, Kevin, who is in treatment for Leukemia. To express online condolences, please visit: www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
