Howard Morley Feldman 1921—2018
Howard Morley Feldman passed away August 8, 2018, in Wesley Willows after a lengthy illness. Born December 25, 1921, in Sterling, Illinois, son of James Clarence and Hazel Mae (Morley) Feldman. Graduated in 1940 from Geneseo Township High School, serving as Senior Class President, attended Knox College, Galesburg, IL, and graduated with a BS in accounting from the University of Illinois (Urbana) in 1947. Enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, and graduated in January 1944, as a 2nd Lt. multi-engine pilot. After operational training in a B-24 Liberator heavy bomber, was shipped over seas to the 15th Air Force – 449th Bomb Group, 718th Squadron located in southern Italy at Grottaglie. Flew 46 missions over Western Europe and the Balkans earning three battle stars for the Rome-Arno campaign, southern France and Normandy, two unit citations, an air medal and three oakleaf clusters. Targets included oil refineries in Romania (Ploesti), Austria and Albania; railway in Brenner Pass; railways and bridges in Hungary, Yugoslavia and Italy; marshaling yards in Italy, Greece, Hungary, Yugoslavia and Germany; gun positions in Italy and support for ground troops in the invasion of southern France. Married his childhood sweetheart, Josephine Arvilla Reschke, on February 14, 1946, in Geneseo, IL. Moved to Rockford, IL after college graduation and was employed by Atwood Vacuum as Director Planning Control until 1966. Employed from 1966 until retirement in 1983 as Vice-President of Manufacturing for Taylor Freezer Company in Rockton, IL. In 1977, during his employment with Taylor, he organized Rockford Metal Polishing Co., which continues today. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church having served on the finance committee and as an usher; charter member and former president of A.P.I.C.S.(Rockford Chapter of American Production & Inventory Control Society); former member of the National Association of Accountants; life member Masonic Blue Lodge, Geneseo, IL; Freeport Consistory; former member of the University Club of Rockford; life member of Burpee Museum of Natural History having served on the Board; life member of Geneseo Historical Society; former board member of Farmers' National Bancorp Inc. of Geneseo, IL. As an avid traveler, traveled all over the world visiting all seven continents but especially loved his Wisconsin farm. Survived by daughters, Barbara Anne Gagliano of South Beloit, IL and Martha Jo Clark of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, John J. (Laura) Gagliano of Loves Park, IL, Matthew H. (Rebecca) Clark and Elizabeth A. Clark of Rochester, MN; nephews, William M. (Barbara) Feldman of Hinsdale, IL, Bob (Pat) Feldman of Attleboro, MA and Gary L. Feldman of Morton, IL; niece, Janet Feldman of Clinton, NC; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by his parents, wife, brothers and their wives, Robert J. (Marilynn) Feldman and Donald L. (Gloria) Feldman and son-in-law, Scott F. Clark. Special thanks to all the wonderful staff at Wesley Willows for their loving care.
Funeral service and burial with military honors at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018, in Muzzy Chapel of Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, IL, officiated by Rev. Gary L. Feldman.
