JACK P. AKERS, 74 ROCKFORD - Jack P. Akers, 74, of Rockford, passed away January 5, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born April 25, 1939, in Vincennes, Indiana to Lloyd Akers and Eva (Mills) Qualkinbush. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, then moved to Rockford. He worked as an electrician for IWT, and was the proprietor of Jacks CB Sales of Machesney Park for over 20 years. Jack followed his dream and moved to the country (Dakota, IL.) to become a hobby farmer and worked for Berner Foods. After retiring, he spent his time enjoying his children and grandchildren. Survived by sons, Jack L. Akers of Machesney Park, IL, Jason Akers, of Rockford, Travis Bird of Lake Delavan, WI., Chris Bird of Cedarville, Il. and Ricky Jack of TX; daughters, Kristy of Tacoma, WA., Eva Melissa of Dakota, IL, Michelle Akers of Texas; sister, Darlene Robbins of Loves Park; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; mother; stepfather, Leon Qualkinbush; and brothers, Lannie and Bobby Jean. A celebration of life will be held from 10 a.m. to noon with service time at 12 noon on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 4311 North Mulford Rd, Loves Park.
